Disco Scratch Radio Interview with yours truly.
From Discoscratch.com:
These interviews I’m doing are revealing some fantastic information about the roots of the UK Hip Hop scene. Scenes14 started in 1982/1983 and it wasn’t long before he was jumping fences at 3 in the morning with a sack of paint on his back. Combined with a love of B Boying and all the elements, Scenes soaked up as much of the fledgling UK Hip Hop sphere as possible. To this day he’s still rocking a dope custom graf Jacket & box fresh Puma kicks with the Suspekt crew baseball cap.
We spoke about the early jams and some of the pivotal events in the UK through the years that Scenes has attended. Racking up some 28 years of living Hip Hop, this guy knows his onions, hope you enjoy the show and apology for slightly too loud mics causing some slight distortion, what can you do, we were gonna do it through headphoes to start with!!! Enjoy & big respect to Scenes14, peep his site, The Underground Strikes Back.

Artifacts-Thats them
One of my fave head nod lps from the mid 90s. This is the follow up to the 1994 album Between a Rock and a Hard Place. That was a classic album and so this LP had a lot to live up to. But it succeeds by bringing that classic hip hop style while making the transition in to an era that was dominated by everything "gangsta". El Da Sensei and Tame One come from a true hip hop background as they are both graf artists originally and they manage to keep that element running throughout their music. I never really understood why this album got so overlooked when it was released, as it had all the things you need for a classic, including tight production from Shawn J and Lord Finesse, as well as El and Tame's lyrical skills. If you've heard the 1st album, this won't disappoint and if you've never heard the Artifacts before, this is an excellent place to start.

The Budos Band
The Budos Band are an "Instrumental Staten-Island Afro-Soul" outfit recording on the Daptone Records label. The band has eleven members (up to thirteen members at times) who play instrumental music that is self-described as "Afro-Soul," a term and sound which - in a recent interview - baritone saxophone player Jared Tankel elucidates as, being drawn from Ethiopian music the band had been listening to that had a soul undercurrent to it, which the band then "sprinkled a little bit of sweet 60's stuff on top" of.
Jazz, deep funk, Afro-beat, and soul influences can be heard in the Budos Band albums, both of which are Daptone Records releases recorded at the label's own studio, Daptone's House of Soul, in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
Probably the best intrumental lps I have got my hands on since the Quantic Orchestra, these rule.

3rd Eye-1994 vhs rip
Billed as a video magazine which ran for all of one episode, its a decent look at some of the UKs more well known acts at the time. Theres an interview with Blade, MC Mello, Kinetic Effect, DJ279, Lords of Rap and some cracking live performances from Katch22.

unkut speaks
It’s only been a few days since another hip-hop legend has been taken away, and already the fuckery has reached fever-pitch. It’s almost like an unwritten law that with each and every death in the rap world, the same circus springs-up and goes through the motions. The extent varies according to how well-known the artist was, but the basic formula doesn’t change:
1. Every two-bit blog and news site posts an ‘R.I.P.’ piece with the basic facts, and maybe a song or a video.
2. A couple of DJ’s who knew and respected the artist do a quality tribute mix or radio special, followed by dozens of dudes who hadn’t played anything by the artist in years but are suddenly claiming to be ‘close personal friends’.
3. Rappers start recording quickly thrown together tribute songs that sound like they were down in five minutes.
4. Bootleg blogs post every single album and guest appearance by the artist and claim it’s a ‘dedication’.
5. Bloggers and mixtape DJ’s frantically raid the vaults in an attempt to find lost demos and outtakes that they can claim as exclusives.
6. Video interviews claiming to be the ‘last ever’ flood the blogs, followed by countless videos of rappers telling stories about hanging out the recently departed.
7. No name rappers start doing embarrassingly bad freestyles over the dead artists beats.
8. Corny ‘R.I.P’ t-shirts appear on Ebay.
I’m sure that the majority of these things are sincere attempts to honor the dead, but the combination of all of it at once can be over-whelming and makes it difficult to spot the fakers. This is not an attempt to point the finger at anyone in particular – even Unkut Dot Com has been guilty of some of these excesses in the past – but where do we draw the line? As fans of the music that these guys have made, it’s natural feel some kind of loss when they pass away, but there’s a thin line between paying your respects and milking a rap-related death to boost your page views or promote your new project. Rest In Peace is not the word to play.

Master Scratch series: vols 6 and 8
A couple more of these old school 84 tapes from RockCity;s famous saturday afternoon bboy jams.
Number 6 has the infamous Inspector Gadget theme done in a bboy style and thsi rip was taken of an original to ensure decent quality.
Also, if anyone can shed a light or two about the tracklist on side B of MS number 8 I would be grateful. I have been chasing the first track on side B for years.

R.I.P Nujabes.. only just found out about this. Damn......
Jun Seba (瀬場 潤, Seba Jun?), (February 19, 1974 – February 26, 2010) was a Japanese hip-hop producer and DJ who recorded under the name Nujabes (Noo-Jah-Bess). His alias was simply his name "sebajun" spelled backwards. Nujabes was also owner of the Shibuya record stores, T Records and Guinness Records and founder of the independent label Hydeout Productions.
In addition to Japanese artists like Uyama Hiroto, Shing02 and Minmi, Nujabes collaborated with underground American hip-hop acts CYNE, Cise Starr (as a solo apart from the hiphop collective CYNE), Apani B, Five Deez, Substantial, CL Smooth, Terry Callier, as well as British rapper Funky DL. He was also a member of the production duo Urbanforest, an experimental collaboration with Nao T.
Nujabes was one of the most prolific contributors to the background music and soundtracks of Samurai Champloo, an anime which blends a feudal Japan setting with modern anachronisms, especially in regards to hip hop culture
On February 26, 2010, Jun Seba was involved in a traffic accident upon exiting the Shuto Expressway late at night. He died at a hospital in Shibuya Ward after failed efforts to revive him. He was 36 years old. There was a private burial with only family in attendance. Hydeout Productions has stated that Nujabes has left behind tracks, which they plan to release in the near future.
He composed one of my favourite tunes, the theme from Samurai Champloo aka "Battlecry".
Rest In Production.
