You either like Banksy or you dont
Myself, Im not arsed. It is what it is. Like the movement he is involved in or not, this film turns the tables on the film maker Thierry and before you know it, he wants to become an artist himself. Fair enough, he does skip alot of the important parts of becoming a writer, like paying dues and putting the years in. The end result of making over 1 million dollars selling what is essentially other peoples art altered cant be sniffed at if turning your graff into a business is your thing.
But more importantly, the film asks the question why people are going mad for "street art" all of a sudden?
Its a well put together film that even non fans of street art will enjoy.

gotta say i don't mind banksy, at least he started out as a writer.
(if his press releases are to be believed)
not some art school wanker, who decided street art was what was happening, and that was their career choice.
If you don't start writing in your teens, you have no business taking it up in later life. Its not a pose.
worst thing about banksy is all the imitators he has inspired who think putting up a vaguely political stencil makes them a street artist.
Banksy seems to have a lot of haters in the graf world. The recent spat with Robbo has added a lot of fuel to the fire as well. Personally I think he has produced some clever stuff over the years. This movie seems to focus more so on the film maker rather than Banksy himself. For a while I thought that maybe the 'Mr. Brainwash' character was created purely for this film (to be honest I'm still not 100% sure) in which case this would be very clever.
I personally admire Banksy's work. He does leave some good messages and his art is just sick. I haven't seen this film but I do want to. And I do agree with JOHNNYCHIBA. He did inspire a lot of kids to attempt to become political with their "pieces" and many have failed. However, the greatest artists need some inspiration. Who knows. Maybe the next best writer will be one of those "imitators".
